The Wishful Thinking team did a considerable amount of research before they settled on the perfect location for this film. With the help of Dr. Zeynep Arda, a Graphic Researcher and Associate Professor at Izmir University of Economics, the team discovered the beautiful ruins of Dara. Through researching the ruins, our team based everything from the rock composition to the dog breeds on it and the surrounding area, namely the city of Mardin. Djinni especially took great influence from the Shamaran, a female djinn with a local connotation as a positive force. Her scaly features, horn-like crown, and golden jewelry all tie her back into the folklore, making the setting in Dara inseparable from the story itself.
